On the first Sunday of August every year, we meet up with our friends at West London Humanists and Secularists (http://westlondon.humanist.org.uk/index.html), in Ealing, for a pub lunch, and a day of croquet.
12:30pm — arrive at the pub for lunch.
2pm — leave the pub and walk 10mins to the nearby Ealing Croquet Club (http://www.ealingcroquet.org/), in Lammas Park (http://www.ealingcroquet.org/how-to-find-us-parking.html), and start playing. Each player pays £12 to the Club take part.
Croquet can be regarded as a cross between golf, snooker, and chess.
The Club members will be on hand to provide coaching, so no problem if you have never played before.
We play the “golf croquet” version of the game, in a round robin tournament style, with each team consisting of two people.
All equipment will be provided, you can play in socks, or trainers, or any other similar flat, soft-soled type of shoes.
Snacks, drinks, and coaching for beginners, will be provided at no additional cost.
The croquet finishes just before 6pm, after which we will move to Crispins Wine Bar nearby in Ealing Broadway to join their monthly quiz later in the evening.
It’s typically a very relaxing summer day out and enjoyed by all. And as many of our younger members will tell you, croquet can be very addictive and fun for all age groups.
